Dr. M. M. Ghatak Honoured with the Bengal British Icon Award at the House of Lords, London

A story of resilience, recognition, and redefining possibilities in healthcare.

A Moment of Pride for Bengal and Beyond

On May 2nd, 2025, a remarkable moment unfolded at the House of Lords in the British Parliament in London. Dr. Mouli Madhab Ghatak, Incharge & Chief Consultant of Medical Rehabilitation Center (MRC), Kolkata, was honoured with the Bengal British Icon Award—a prestigious recognition that celebrates extraordinary individuals from the Bengal community who are making a lasting impact across the globe.

Presented by the esteemed Baroness Manzila Uddin, this award shines a light on icons who have driven change through empowerment, excellence, and community contribution—three defining themes that Dr. Ghatak’s life work embodies to the fullest.

Dr. Ghatak’s Journey to Recognition

Over two decades ago, Dr. Ghatak noticed a growing crisis. Stroke survivors, people with brain or spinal injuries, and children suffering from conditions like cerebral palsy were increasing in number—but there were hardly any places equipped to offer them real recovery. In Eastern India, particularly West Bengal, the need was urgent. But solutions were few and far between.

Dr. Ghatak didn’t wait for change. He became the change. Where others saw hopeless cases, he saw potential. Where the world said, “Nothing more can be done,” he chose to prove otherwise.

That’s how MRC was born—not as just another rehabilitation center, but as a lifeline. Today, it is recognized as one of the best pain and paralysis treatment centers in Kolkata, operating with a multidisciplinary team that offers everything from diagnostics to advanced physiotherapy, integrated therapeutics to surgical rehab—365 days a year.

A Ray of Hope: MRC
  • MRC specializes in pain management and paralysis treatment, including physiotherapy and rehab services tailored to each patient’s condition.
  • It focuses on restoring mobility and dignity to individuals once told they’d never walk again.
  • From stroke victims to those with spinal injuries or childhood neurological conditions, MRC’s patients have defied all odds.

Dr. Ghatak’s mission has always been simple: to bring people back to life—not just medically, but emotionally.

The award he received is a recognition not only for his professional achievements but also for the compassion and persistence that drive his vision.
